Indiana Jones looking Chris Pratt doesn’t smile a lot in the film Mercy. I watched it yesterday on Sky in streaming trying to guess why it was so hard cancelled in my area, I wrote an e-mail to the multiplex, the local one, and they didn’t reply, my cousin asked directly a staffer, a human who told him it’s chain-decision (that is Vue International) the local manager can’t help it, I wrote an e-mail in English to some Vue’s e-mail boxes they haven’t replied yet.
But Sky gave it on streaming less than one month after Theatre Release, it’s not about money any longer, I would pay €8 or €10 to watch it in Theatre and so my cousin and his firend and they didn’t mind, they like to say Pratt and Ferguson tanked at the box office, must be a new pleasure in the rich ones upper classes.
Yes I have liked it, it has some flaws, done almost on purpose, but it conveys a scary amount of information about AI, and the Police. And the two combined.
SPOILER, I RECOMMEND WATCHING IT, BUT BELOW THERE ARE HARD SPOILERS, THANKS
Chris Pratt is a nice looking hard boiled cop on the verge of divorce because he drinks.
But the movie is not very violent, they keep it quiet, he drinks because he saw a colleague killed in action and instead of killing the guilty one like bad cops do, he arrests him and brings him to the Court with the human Judges (old fashion stuff) who release him and declare him innocent/not guilty, after that they invent in L.A. “Mercy Criminal Court”: you are already on the electric chair, if they have enough files, evidences (supposedly) of you being an assassin they give you, by mercy of course, 1 hour and a half to prove your innocence or the electric chair functions.
There’s only One Judge which is an AI generated woman: Judge Maddox.
The cop is Detective Chris Raven.
And here starts the movie: the AI Criminal Court with Rebecca Ferguson doing AI generated Judge Maddox have access to the cloud of all computers in the world but few pirates and… they have all the cameras, the webcams, the smart-phones cams and text files, the computers, the telephones ALL tracked, the only place where there’s not a camera is disgracefully the room where a homicide happens so as to be able to arrest and kill an innocent sayng evidences of the other cameras say he killed her.
It’s a “I didn’t kill my wife” situation, passion has gone, how could I possibly do a passional homicide?
It’s scary because it’s true that we can be tracked like this, and it is true now, not in ten years, what privacy law? What Senator Paul from Kentucky can save us? And if you disconnect, if you log out, it’s a swarm of satellites that record all the roads all the planet all the gardens all the corners, but the room where there’s the homicide. And we know it’s already like this.
It just shows us, with this trick of the Mercy Capital Court. It’s a movie I recommend watching even if it has artistic flaws: for example there’s a lot of passional things that women like me would like to go into: Chris’s wife has an affair that provides her with a pirate smart-phone but there’s no sex, no kissing, detective Raven instead drinks at the bar but has no lover, he is not adulterer she seemingly is, all the things that would make the movie intriguing are shown like spying via a webcam, not like a classic movie because it’s done to show how AI works not how you meet a lover and handle an affair and a drunken husband. But it’s impressive for this because you know it can happen for real since there are already all those cameras there.
The other flaw is a bad photography, now I watched it on Sky and I don’t put the blame on my screen or on the streaming Wind connection because quite frankly John Wick, particularly Chapter 2 was extremely high definition, I mean the photography was extra-polished, extra nitid, also the other movies I watched as Justcie Legaue’s beginning or Batman Vs Superman or The Substance they don’t have all the same spick and span but the photography is very good, clean The Rip, extra-clean John Wick 2, natural clean The Accountant, more polished than natural but not as much as John Wick, The Substance, this one is … blurred instead, it’s not HD at all, and not just the webcams’ part also the rest of the movie, I think it’s a choice but it’s a detail I didn’t like.
The rest is Politics, it is tragic that with all this spying state, all this peeping Toms the smart-phone, the satellites pointed at your house, the parking, the CCTV footage everything has an eye and after losing almost completely privacy there’s neither Justice nor Security, AI botched the trial just like the previous human Court. So why lose the privacy if there’s no security? L.A. still full of criminals and the trials are botched?
Moreover Chris Raven saves himself because he is a detective of LAPD and he knows how to vet the files, whom to call, he has Agents, other investigators among his friends, he manages to save himself but another one less skilled in investigations would never make it: you lose your privacy for nothing.
Who Wants This?
The European Union and a part of the American Politicians as Nikki Haley they want to make it compulsory to register with the legal name and data, an ID with legal name no more fantasy nicknames, and true date date of birth nationality & co ANY TIME you access Internet, so as to make it illegal to use a nickname and an avatar to take part in forums, activate a social media account and even just enter Internet, even only to roam the net, to read according to them you have to register, Nikki Haley was hated for this proposal, in the name of security of course: we’re all pedophiles but the pedophiles. Thye want to arrest us all but the real child abusers.
It’s a disgrace.
Who’s Against This?
The Swiss are going to vote on the 8th of March to make cash compulsory and eliminate the Computer Control of money. The money can flow outside the Internet control and spying trap:

QUOTE – In Switzerland, people are increasingly making cashless payments, for example with debit and credit cards or payment apps. Nevertheless, most people would like cash to remain as a means of payment. The law currently stipulates that the Swiss National Bank is responsible for ensuring the supply of cash and that the Swiss franc is the Swiss currency.
The initiative
The initiative aims to enshrine the availability of cash and the Swiss franc as Switzerland’s currency in the Constitution. To this end, it wants to oblige the federal government to ensure that a sufficient quantity of coins and banknotes is always in circulation. Furthermore, replacing the Swiss franc with another currency should only be possible with the consent of the people and the cantons.
Norway
Last year Norway passed a law to make it compulsory to accept cash payments, no Restaurant or shop can refuse cash and force the use of the Internet for payments.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
In other Countries instead they are trying to make it compulsory to have a smart-phone, in Italy we fought to have the right to physical card ID and driver’s license the sick Meloni Government wanted digital wallet and digital ID as a substitute of physical cards which means you don’t have your own docs anymore.
It’s disgusting, Meloni should be thrown in the garbage bin. Filthy woman we have to expel.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
We have to fight for our privacy and personal control of our data: personal not state control. Now they’re quarrelling whether the USA or the EU should control our data. WE should control our own data and privacy, the individual, neither the EU nor the USA. Right?
Nice sweated for fear Chris Pratt and square faced dumb-intelligent AI Ferguson are promoted, they kept alive a movie that perhaps with other actors and other faces would be boring. It isn’t.
Not my favourite, but very informational. Very. Recommended if you haven’t seen it yet.
And again God bless Sky Corp. As for the Cinema Distribution Chain… it’s their fault if people don’t go to Theatres any longer or not so often, not Netflix’s nor Sky’s.
