ITALY – “Robberellum” Election System: Vannacci’s supporters vote “Yes” in secret, meaning they’ve agreed to join Meloni’s coalition, the PD and the 5S Movement don’t want to hold primaries, but Meloni is forcing them to, or else they’ll fall too far behind: they have to name their candidate for PM, End Of.

Giuseppi Third?

Remember Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte? When Trump & Pompeo called him “Giuseppi”? He might make a comeback, and that wouldn’t be the worst thing that could happen to us in Italy—in the sense that the Campo Largo (Broad Left-Center Coalition) has to hold primaries whether it wants to or not, and Mr Conte is the favorite. He has a point in his favor: he wouldn’t want to do it, but Meloni is forcing the issue; her monstrous electoral law passed in the Senate thanks to the votes of the “Vannacci-ites”—secret votes, but the numbers indicate it was them, the “Big Law” received seven more votes than the total number of center-right lawmakers present; clearly, Vannaccio struck a backroom deal with Meloni. I don’t know why they pretend to quarrel, given that this law—which they voted for—forces them to stick together; otherwise, the center-right would drop below 40% or—heaven forbid—we’d end up at the Quirinale facing an election with whatever system happens to be in place now.

The Campo Largo has to hold primaries because this law—which we now know will pass, and will pass with the votes of the dreadful Vannacci—requires the designation of a Coalition Candidate Prime Minister (which is likely unconstitutional in Italy, but…). This designated Candidate PM will be Meloni for the Center-right, Marco Rizzo for Italia Domani (though will Italia Domani actually be on the ballot? Will they manage to gather enough signatures?), and… either Mr Conte or Miss Schlein for the Campo Largo. Conte—”Giuseppi”—seems the more plausible choice; the guy whom… well, we could all vote for—even I might, who knows why. CLICK THE LINK

According to every poll, a Conte-led premiership would allow the “Broad Coalition” (Campo Largo) to defeat the center-right coalition led by Meloni; conversely, a Schlein-led premiership risks handing victory to Meloni.

They know this.

Who will I vote for?

If he makes it onto the ballot, I’ll vote for Marco Rizzo (Italia Domani); if he doesn’t make the cut, I’ll switch to Conte.

Meloni has taken in more migrants than Conte when he was Premier and repatriated fewer—even fewer than Renzi did.

Meloni and the League have flooded the Veneto Region with Muslims, whereas Conte hasn’t—you can check the facts yourself; for Meloni, saying one thing and doing another is the norm. And when someone says one thing and does another—calling for an anti-migrants Naval Blockade while sending Crosetto and the Guardia di Finanza’s hips to pick them up and yet simultaneously issuing half a million visas to Afro-Asian foreigners—well, get this into your heads: Meloni is useless and harmful. As for the General—who opposes abortion from conception like a priest and champions a stubborn, vindictive “Mediterranean Patriarchy” as well as child labor (starting at age 14)—he will inevitably get absorbed into the fold, because on his own, he’s going nowhere.

Rizzo’s Party is the better choice, but it doesn’t appear in the polls yet—I’m still clicking “Other Party” when I take surveys—and there’s no guarantee he’ll make it onto the ballot.

So, Goodbye.
