Here’s the strange maths of Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene who are out for the kill, to oust Speaker Johnson, with only 2 votes Massie-Greene they can actually oust him unless Johnson takes the votes of the Democrats, because according to Wikipedia the Minimum House Majority is 218 Seats and the Republican have just 218 seats, which means if they lose even only one seat they go down to 217 and have no majority any longer:
It looks a bit like a Russian roulette but… with 5 bullets and one empty hole, because if Johnson takes it badly, like McCarthy he resigns and leaves them without majority, since there is another Republican House Rep who already said he will resign after April 16, yesterday, which means the seat remains empty and there’s no by election till November they’d go down to 216 seats and at that point they cannot do anything, zero without Democrats, Massie may say “Already now they aren’t doing anything without Demcorats” but it’s not the same because a new Speaker voted also by the Democrats will have to give something to the Dems like the head of Jim Jordan, the re-making of the House Committees, and it will de-power both the Republicans in general and the vociferous Freedom Caucus specifically that with McCarthy and Johnson had the committees. I don’t know if this is convenient. Here’s the reasoning of Massie:
Add that, last but not least, SCOTUS said it’s not Arizona State Secretary that can ban Trump from the ballot for incitement to an insurrection: it’s the Congress.
Well, Republicans already now don’t control the Senate but at least they still have the House, if they lose also the House I don’t know… it’s… looming the possibility that the Dems plus 3 or 4 Republicans bar Trump from public office. Unless you need a supermajority and not a simple majority.
This is the Republican Hazard, I don’t comment any further. I leave it to Massie and Greene. If someone wants to get rid of Trump, they may give it a go.
To be specific I do agree with FISA, and I trust Wray, but I do not agree with giving money and armaments to Ukraine and Israel, I suggest that Johnson stops giving money to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, and they go on with just ordinary work for the American people trying to convince Joe Biden to do right. To force the hand in a situation like this may mean, after Johnson, also Trump may be gone. It’s not a bad thing in itself, the Republicans may go on the ballot with another, a better one. And we see the light. But… is this what they want?
